Gridded Palinurus by Michael Dix
‘Gridded Palinurus’, reverse painted acrylic on glass. Architectural devices such as two overlapping white grids reinforce the mass and abstraction of the piece. Painstakingly painted over two layers – a canvas backboard with a layer of glass spaced over; the hues and shadows of the work move and alternate with the light.
Size- 430(H) x 430mm (W) (framed). Acrylic paint reverse painted to the underside of glass, painted canvas under. Michael Dix is an artist and designer based in Dundee. ‘Scale’ forms the central core of Michael's work. Concentrated, articulate, complex pieces of nature and other overlooked objects are painted over pristine white backgrounds, ordinance survey maps, and glass. Michael has developed meticulous techniques which cause the viewer to question how the work is created, or if what they are looking at is real. Michael has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and his work can is found in collections throughout the world.
