FEATURED PROJECT: LOFT CONVERSION.
Located in Wormit near Dundee, this project involved the conversion of a loft space in an existing Victorian semi-detached villa, into a large family space with stunning views over the river Tay.
As the property was North Facing, the client asked if it was possible to somehow introduce natural light to the lower levels of the property through the stairwell.
To access the new loft space a new staircase would need to be constructed which would obscure any possible roof lighting into the lower levels of the property unless the stair was transparent. The brave decision was taken to design a staircase that had glass treads, landings and even stringers/ balustrading.
Working in collaboration with a structural engineer and specialist glass manufacturer (to tolerances of less than 10mm) the new stair was installed allowing light to flood down 3 storeys into what was originally a dark hallway.
