Sustainability
Our live edge tables are made from ‘Rain Tree’ otherwise known as ‘Samanea Saman’ wood. The trees’ population are listed as ‘Stable’ by the ‘IUCN Red List of Threatened Species’ the world’s most comprehensive inventory of the global conservation status of biological species. It is justified by them as:
“This tree species has a very wide distribution, large population, is not currently experiencing any major threats and no significant future threats have been identified. This species is therefore assessed as Least Concern.”
Suitability
The trees make excellent table tops due to the large diameter of the trunks and the rapid growing time for the trees to reach maturity. The colour tends to be golden to dark brown, sometimes with darker streaks. The Sapwood is often thin and yellow/white, clearly demarcated from the heartwood. Saman wood often has highly figured, curly, and ‘flame-like’ grain patterns.
